One Box That Ends the Rack

The Primare I35 Prisma is an integrated amplifier, a DAC, and a network player in one Swedish-built chassis. It delivers 150 watts per channel into 8 ohms, and 300 watts into 4 ohms, from Primare's own UFPD 2 Class D modules.

Analog sources get two balanced XLR pairs and three RCA pairs. That is five analog inputs before you reach the digital side, plus a line output and a preamp output for a subwoofer or a bigger power amplifier later.

Stream Without Adding Another Box

The Prisma module brings AirPlay, Chromecast built-in, Spotify Connect, Bluetooth, and internet radio. Connect over Wi-Fi or either of two Ethernet ports. Chromecast opens the door to hundreds of services, and the system runs multi-room from Primare's app.

Digital inputs are generous: four Toslink, two coaxial, one USB-B for a computer, and a USB-A port. There is a coaxial digital output too. MQA decoding is on board for TIDAL Masters.

Small Enough to Live in the Room

All of that fits in a case 430mm wide, 106mm tall, and 420mm deep. It weighs 11 kg. Class D is what makes 150 watts per channel possible in a box this size without heat becoming the design problem. This listing is the titanium finish.

Primare is distributed in North America by MoFi Distribution, and the amplifier carries a three-year limited warranty on parts and labor when it is bought from an authorized dealer. Audio Advisor is one, so your purchase qualifies. Keep your invoice.

What UFPD 2 Actually Changes

UFPD stands for Ultra Fast Power Device. The second generation reworks the Class D output stage Primare has used for years. The company's stated aim was linear amplification across the whole audible band, not just part of it.

The published numbers are quiet ones. Distortion plus noise stays under 0.01% from 20Hz to 20kHz at 10 watts into 8 ohms. Signal-to-noise beats 100 dB. Frequency response holds 20Hz to 20kHz within 0.2 dB.

The Chip Doing the Converting

The DM36 module runs an ESS ES9068A converter. It handles PCM to 384kHz and 32 bits, plus DSD256 and MQA, with upsampling options. Because the module is separate, the digital section can be upgraded without replacing the amplifier.

Modularity is the point of the 35 series. The same chassis exists as a bare I35, an I35 DAC, and this fully loaded Prisma version, so the platform grows rather than gets replaced.

What Reviewers Are Saying

Neil Gader reviewed the I35 Prisma for The Absolute Sound on June 27, 2019. He called it "a top-notch, nicely balanced performance" and wrote that "Never have integrated amps been asked to do so much musically and functionally."

Alan Sircom reviewed it for hi-fi+ on June 22, 2021. "Adding both DAC and Prisma makes the I35 one of the most comprehensively specified integrated amplifiers out there at the moment", and he found "Set-up of Prisma is a breeze".

Gader listed "A couple of minor quibbles": the OLED characters are legible up close but tiny from across the room, and "The front-panel menu interface on the I35 needs updating". Sircom qualified the easy setup as "at least for those net-savvy enough to have built their own home network". He also noted one gap: "But no AES/EBU link."

Who Is This Integrated Amplifier Best For?

  • You want the rack to disappear — amplifier, DAC, and streamer in one box, so speakers are the only thing left to add.
  • You run balanced sources — two XLR pairs alongside three RCA pairs, which the smaller I25 does not offer.
  • Your speakers are demanding — 150 watts into 8 ohms, doubling to 300 watts into 4 ohms, so the hardest part of the load is where it works best.
  • You stream from several services — AirPlay, Chromecast built-in, Spotify Connect, Bluetooth, and MQA for TIDAL Masters.
  • If you would rather keep digital out of the amplifier, separates suit you better — Primare's PRE35 preamplifier and A35.2 power amplifier split the job across two chassis.

How Does It Connect to Your System?

Speakers go to the binding posts, balanced sources to the XLR pairs, and everything else to the three RCA pairs. A television or disc player connects over Toslink or coaxial, and a computer over USB-B. Ethernet or Wi-Fi puts it on the network.

From there the Prisma app takes over: pick a source, pick a room, pick a service. The C25 remote, IR ports, a 12V trigger, and RS232 are there for custom installation.

Add speakers. That is the system.

Pairs Well With

Building around the I35 Prisma? Start here:

  • Floorstanding speakers — 300 watts into 4 ohms is real headroom: floorstanding speakers.
  • Bookshelf speakers — the same power suits a smaller room: bookshelf speakers.
  • CD players and transports — feed the DM36 over coaxial or Toslink: CD players and transports.
  • Speaker cables — plan the runs before the boxes arrive: speaker cables.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a separate streamer or DAC?

This version ships with both the DM36 DAC module and the SM35 Prisma network module already fitted. Speakers and cable are all you add.

Which streaming services work with it?

Spotify Connect, AirPlay, Bluetooth, and internet radio directly, plus anything that casts through Chromecast built-in. MQA decoding covers TIDAL Masters.

What resolution does the DAC handle?

The DM36 module accepts PCM up to 384kHz at 32 bits and DSD256, using an ESS ES9068A converter with upsampling options.

Can I connect a turntable?

Only through an external phono preamplifier. There is no phono stage built in, so a turntable feeds one of the RCA line inputs by way of a phono stage.

How is it different from the I25 Prisma?

More power and balanced inputs. The I35 makes 150 watts per channel against the I25's 100, and adds two XLR pairs. The digital and streaming sections are the same.

Can I add modules later?

This model already has both. The platform is modular by design, which is how Primare offers the same chassis as a bare I35, an I35 DAC, and this Prisma version.
