Silver Apex Is Analysis Plus's Top Silver Interconnect
Analysis Plus's Silver Apex is the company's top silver cable. Pure silver is laid over a stabilizing strand of oxygen-free copper and woven into the hollow oval geometry. Two shields wrap the signal path. Analysis Plus says the noise floor is so low you can hear your amp breathe. Stereophile lists it among its Recommended Components.
Pure Silver Over Copper in a Double-Shielded Hollow Oval
Silver conducts better than copper, but pure silver wire is soft. Analysis Plus lays the silver over a strand of oxygen-free copper that gives the braid its strength. The braid is woven into the hollow oval shape for even current flow. Stereophile describes the layout as a hollow oval inside a hollow oval inside a hollow oval.
The Abbatron XLR Plug, Explained
Silver Apex ends in an XLR plug from Abbatron of Meadville, Pennsylvania. The female plug gets beryllium copper sockets. The male gets tellurium copper pins. Abbatron says the pair conducts about three times as well, for a cleaner and fuller sound. A chuck-style strain relief grips the cable where it enters the shell. The plug latches into the jack.
Made by Hand in Michigan
Analysis Plus was founded in 1993 as a scientific research and design company. It builds Silver Apex by hand at its own shop in Flushing, Michigan. Positive Feedback reported the nested build is so demanding that one uninterrupted run is under 100 feet.
What Reviewers Are Saying
Silver Apex is listed in Stereophile’s Recommended Components for 2026, posted April 10, 2026. The entry calls the nested build "double shielded and thus quiet," and Michael Fremer called the cable "highly recommended!"
Roger Kanno, writing in SoundStage! Hi-Fi on July 15, 2018, found the sound "bracing and powerful right from the start, while remaining relaxed and highly refined." He also noted the cables "aren't what I'd call attractive."
John Hoffman of Positive Feedback kept them after his September 8, 2018 review: "I value the neutrality and refinement they bring to the table."
Who Is This Interconnect Best For?
- You want the top of the Analysis Plus range — Silver Apex is the company's best silver cable, so there is nowhere further to go in this line
- You want silver without glare — reviewers heard a relaxed, refined, neutral cable, so the silver adds speed, not edge
- Your sources sit near power supplies — two shields and the nested layout drop the noise floor, so quiet passages stay quiet
- You want a plug that locks — the Abbatron XLR latches into the jack, so the connection stays put and the copper pins stay seated
- Your components have only RCA jacks — the Silver Apex XLR will not fit an RCA jack. Choose the Analysis Plus Silver Apex RCA instead, or call us and we will match the connector
How Does It Connect to Your System?
Run Silver Apex from a balanced XLR output on your DAC, streamer, CD player or phono stage. It goes to a balanced XLR input on your preamp or amplifier. Line up the three pins and push until the latch clicks. To remove it, press the latch and pull by the plug, never by the cable.
Then listen. Other and longer lengths available. Call for prices.
Pairs Well With
An interconnect is one link in the chain. It usually joins these categories.
- Integrated Amplifiers — the usual input end
- Digital-to-Analog Converters — DAC output to amplifier
- Phono Preamplifiers — phono stage to line input
- Speaker Cables — the last link to the speakers
Frequently Asked Questions
What XLR plug does Silver Apex use?
An Abbatron XLR, made in Meadville, Pennsylvania. It has beryllium copper sockets and tellurium copper pins, which Abbatron says conduct about three times as well. Analysis Plus does not say which contact finish it fits.
Why silver over copper?
Silver conducts better than copper, and Analysis Plus uses it for the signal. The oxygen-free copper strand underneath stabilizes the soft silver so the hollow oval braid keeps its shape.
Will a silver cable sound bright?
Reviewers did not find that. SoundStage! Hi-Fi heard it relaxed and highly refined, and Positive Feedback valued its neutrality.
What is the hollow oval design?
Analysis Plus's own conductor shape. At high frequencies current crowds to the outside of a wire and bunches unevenly. The oval keeps the outgoing and return paths close, and the hollow center drops the metal that would carry little current.
What warranty does Analysis Plus give?
One year against mechanical defects, from the date of purchase, on cables sold as new. Keep your proof of purchase. The warranty is not transferable and does not cover cables that have been altered or misused.
