The Rega 45 Adaptor — For Singles That Lost Their Centres

A 45 rpm record adaptor from Rega, sold singly and carrying the Rega logo. It sits over your turntable's spindle and fills the large center hole in a 7-inch single, so a record cut that way can be played on an ordinary deck.

The particular case it addresses is a record whose original center has been punched out. Jukebox singles were routinely de-centerd, and a great many second-hand 45s arrive that way — playable in principle, unplayable in practice without one of these.

Fit and Function

How It Sits

The adaptor fits over the spindle of your turntable and the record fits over the outside of the adaptor. That is the whole mechanism — no clamping, nothing to tighten, and nothing that stays behind when you take the record off.

What It Fits

Rega designs it for use on a Rega turntable or another make. A conventional spindle is a conventional spindle, so there is no compatibility question to settle beyond having a single with the large hole in the first place.

Rega finishes it as a Rega product rather than as a commodity part, and it carries the logo. On a Planar sitting in a living room that is not a trivial consideration for everyone.

Who Is This Adaptor Best For?

  • You buy second-hand singles — ex-jukebox copies have had their centers removed
  • You own a Rega turntable — the finish and the logo were designed for it
  • Your existing adaptor is plastic and loose — a worn bore leaves the single sitting off center
  • You want it to look right — it is finished as a Rega accessory rather than as a spare part
  • Your singles have small centers — those play without an adaptor; see turntable accessories for other spindle accessories

How Do You Use It?

Place it over the spindle, then lower the single onto it so the record's hole seats on the adaptor's outer edge. Check the record is running true before you cue the arm — a visibly orbiting single will waver in pitch on every held note.

Pairs Well With

What most Rega owners keep alongside.

  • Record mats — mat thickness changes arm height
  • Replacement styli — the consumable at the business end
  • Stylus force gauges — the one setting to check after any change at the arm
  • Turntable accessories — the rest of the small parts

Frequently Asked Questions

Will it fit my turntable?

Rega states it is for use on a Rega or another brand of turntable. It fits over a conventional spindle, which is a long-established standard.

How many do I need?

One, sold singly. It moves from record to record rather than staying with a single.

Does it stay on the record?

It stays on the spindle. Lift the record off and the adaptor remains where it is, ready for the next one.
